Let’s liberate the virus, Bobby-Joe

Ah America, the land of the great, the free, and, apparently, the stupid. In the nation hardest hit thus far by COVID, it seems that many people in their infinite wisdom (the President, naturally, included) decided to organise gun and MAGA heavy protests against the lockdown measures in place to stop the spread of the illness; you know, the measures in place to stop them from dying with their zero health insurance. I suppose the most amusing part about this is that the ‘Liberate’ movement (as they so call themselves) have taken to arming themselves against the virus during their protests: to be frank, however, I regret to inform them that their second amendment rights aren’t going to be able to shoot an invisible enemy that is only 100 nanometres in size.
Once again on display here is the conditioned gullibility of many in the far-right Trump base, such that they are so willing, with the presidents support, to risk the lives of countless numbers of their fellow countrymen. But oh no, you have a right to protest don’t you? It’s nasty big government democrats telling you to stay inside and helping you stay alive: what barstads!
We’ve previously discussed on this blog how Trumps direct actions are, on their own, killing people in absurd and wholly avoidable numbers: but what of this movement? In this writers view (which I hope is not regarded as controversial) the ‘Liberate’ crusade is just another symptom of the impact of the cult of Trump. This is a man who could order his supporters to march on a person he dislikes and they would do so in droves. Why, then, in the words of the increasingly comparably rational looking Kin Jong-Un, is this deluded dotard encouraging his base to go out and protest against very reasonable counter-death measures? Afterall, had he ordered with the same passion people to stay inside, they would follow his order without question.
The answer is that he knows his base, and knows it bloody well. Lest we forget he’s long since indoctrinated many of the disenfranchised to become his partisan peddlers of hatred and bigotry. Thus, he can say whatever he wants and whatever he believes to model them into his own image: people of unquestioning loyalty. Trumps interest is power, himself as a deity, and his supporters as willing decibels. We all know the power a religion can have.
The Liberate movement is but one instance of Trump deploying this power, taking with him the hopeless, the helpless and the scared. If you tell a lie often enough, it soon becomes the truth; nice to see Trump embracing the advice of Joseph Goebbels, ay?
